French oil giant Total says an operation to stop a gas leak on its stricken Elgin platform in the North Sea has been successful. The installation was evacuated seven weeks ago when when the gas began leaking. A team of specialist engineers began work yesterday to stem the leak by pumping heavy mud into the well. In other news; A prison officer has been jailed for 18 months for harbouring one of Scotland's most dangerous men. And in sport; After being given a vote of confidence to continue as Scotland rugby coach, Andy Robinson says he has faith in himself AND his players to turn things round.
