Edinburgh and East - Thu, 09 Aug, 2012

Edinburgh and East - Thu, 09 Aug, 2012 Tube. Duration : 22.43 Mins.

A former Hibernian youth footballer has been jailed, following the largest seizure of drugs ever made by Lothian and Borders Police. Kris Brown was sentenced to nine years for running a drugs factory, from a flat in Edinburgh's Sighthill area. The son of the murdered pensioner, Jenny Methven, has denied having anything to do with her death. The accused, William Kean, has lodged a special defence - blaming David Methven for her murder. Mr Methven has admitted lying to the police, about having a large sum of money in the Forteviot cottage he shared with his mother, but denies being a drug dealer and money lender. In other news, the sodden summer of 2012 could lead to one of the worst harvests in recent years for Scotland's potato farmers. Prices in the shops are forecast to rise and the poor yield may lead to more imports from Europe. And in sport, the Scottish FA's performance Director Mark Wotte says Hearts are leading the way in developing young talent - for the benefit of the Scottish game. He was joined by Scotland boss Craig Levein today to promote the SFA's new Performance Schools - set up to nurture the talent of tomorrow.
